Instagram added the Highlights feature a while ago, but I have only just made cute little icons for my page. I was using plain text up until now, which looked boring, but I left it anyway. That was until I decided otherwise. I toyed with the idea of creating these on Photoshop, but I didn’t want to spend all that time doing it. I came across CANVA just over a week ago. I needed to create a moodboard, & googled what sites I could use to do it on. I know I’m not the only one who has wondered how to make Instagram Stories Highlight Icons. We have all seen other people do it, right? So, while playing around on the Canva website, I figured it out, & wanted to share it with you. And also mostly because since uploading mine, I have been getting SO. MANY. DMS. Lol. So, here’s a step by step guide: HOW TO MAKE INSTAGRAM STORIES HIGHLIGHT ICONS.

STEP 1: Visit the Canva website – here. Create an account. I set my account up using my Google details. It’s super quick & easy.

STEP 2: Create A Design or Find Templates. Personally, I prefer to find templates to work with rather than creating a new design. Creating a design means you put in the size dimensions. And finding a template allows you to search for something you are looking for e.g. Instagram Story. This will pull up the exact size you need. And you can even find templates with most of the work done already.

STEP 3: Select a template. There are thousands of templates to choose from. Once you have decided what template you would like to use, click into it.

STEP 4: Delete what you don’t need. Once you’re looking at the template, you need to start deleting everything you don’t need. You can stop at any point you want, & you can even delete EVERYTHING until you just have a blank background. But obviously if you like the background colors/design of the template you used, you can use that & skip to STEP 6.

STEP 5: Change your background. If you have deleted everything, you will need to add a background color or design.

STEP 6: Add Icons. This is the fun part, where you can decide what icons you’d like to include in your highlights. You can either look the the Elements section & look at the icons available. Or you can search for a specific icon eg. CAMERA.

To add the icons, you simply select the icon & it will appear centralized on your background. You can resize the icon to make it smaller or larger; & also to reposition it.

**Most icons are FREE, but some do require a PRO account or that you pay $1

STEP 7: Download your work. Now that you’re done, you can download what you’ve done so that you can use it on your Instagram account.

I encourage you to have some fun & try do some of your own. And if you’re a little lazy, you can always just save these below. Please share with your friends & followers if you use this guide.
