Last year I was gifted the Clarisonic Plus by the Clarisonic team. I had previously tried out the Sorbet facial cleansing brush & I thought it was good for the price. But then I tried the Clarisonic Plus & my life & skin were changed. Off the bat, this post is not sponsored in any way by Clarisonic. Had it been sponsored, I would not only be talking about it after almost 1 year of use – duh! Also, as I type this I see online that this particular brush has been discontinued – & unfortunately Clarisonic cannot be purchased in SA at present, however the brand is working on that so I will keep you posted.
That being said, today I’m chatting my cleansing routine which yes does include the Clarisonic Plus Sonic Cleansing Brush, but it also includes other products that I love. When it comes to my skincare routine, I focus more on my nighttime routine rather than daytime. My morning skincare is water on my face in the shower & sometimes I wash it with the Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser, but not all the time. I finish off my morning routine with some Clarins Double Serum or the Solal Vitamin C Serum, & then a SPF moisturiser (either Solal SPF 30 or Eucerin SPF 50). That’s it. My mornings are almost always a rush so I do the bare minimum. I prefer to take my time with the night routine because I have more than enough time to spare & can use as many products as I’d like. Before I go any further, I want you to know that I have a dozen other skincare products in my routine, but I am just talking about cleansing in this post. Not make-up removers before cleansing; or toners. This post is purely about the facial cleansers I use in my routine. I use a few cleansers, but for the most part I have narrowed it down to 3. Not in one go, but throughout the week.
Clarisonic Plus Face & Body Sonic Cleansing Brush
Using the Clarisonic Plus was something I took time to get used to. I wouldn’t say that it was fear, because I had used a facial cleansing brush before (the Sorbet one). I guess it was because I get so used to my routine it takes me ages to change it up. Honestly, if you’ve been here from the beginning, you would know I’ve been using the Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 since day one. It is a constant in my skincare routine. I don’t like change. And incorporating the Clarisonic into my routine also meant I was going to use the cleanser it came with. A new cleanser in my routine is something that takes courage. I must be feeling brave when I try something new. It’s so daunting because you don’t know how your skin is going to react to something new. But when I was having a ‘brave’ day weeks after receiving the Clarisonic, I tried it all out; and I would be lying if I said I didn’t fall in love after one use.
Your skin is subject to oil, perspiration, debris, makeup, and environmental pollutants. All of these combined make a sticky, stubborn pore-clogging shield that can make the skin look unhealthy, feel rough, and become irritated, while acting as a barrier to skincare products. And what’s the point of using skincare products if they’re not being absorbed into the skin right? Clarisonic uses patented sonic cleansing technology which works with skin’s natural elasticity, oscillating at a sonic frequency that produces over 300 movements per second. The bristles are gentle enough that you can use the Clarisonic day & night. Although in my experience, once a day is enough. The Clarisonic Plus has multiple speed settings which is great because you get to do what feels comfortable for you. I cannot tell you enough how the texture of my skin changed. My skin has been so much smoother since using the Clarisonic. And it always feels so clean! When I travel to places like China, where they can sometimes be so faulty with regard to luggage. They will literally stop your checked luggage (not cabin baggage) from going through if they scan a lighter in it. Crazyyy. Fear of my baby being taken away is why I don’t take it with; and wow my skin tells the story of it. 1 week without my Clarisonic & I feel like my skin even looks dull. While I do believe the cleanser you use matters, I don’t feel you have to use the Clarisonic range of cleansers in conjunction with the cleansing brush as the brush itself is the key tool in my opinion.
Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser
I picked this cleanser up when I was in LA earlier this year. To be honest, I knew absolutely nothing about it, except that it was by the Clarisonic brand & could be used in conjunction with my Clarisonic cleansing brush. My application technique varies from day to day. Some days I apply the cleanser directly onto my face, & on other days I apply it into the Clarisonic brush. Considering I purchased this product on a whim, I would actually re-purchase it. I find that my skin almost always looks blemish free. My skin is not problematic, but I used to have fine bumps here & there. I don’t have those anymore. It could be either the Clarisonic facial brush or the gel cleanser; or both. It is fragrance-free, soap-free & paraben-free, so ladies with sensitive skin might love it too. Overall, it’s a a product that I have grown to love & the fact that my skin is almost always blemish free is amazing!

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser
This is the newbie in my skincare routine. And I have been pleasantly surprised. It arrived on my desk courtesy of Kiehl’s a few weeks ago, & being an avid Keihl’s fan, I decided to give it a go almost immediately. Normally I wouldn’t speak about skincare so soon, but I have loved using this product so much that I felt I had to include it today. The Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser cleanses and purifies skin to effectively remove dirt, oil and environmental pollutants while helping to improve skin clarity. It is formulated with Pearlstone which is a natural exfoliant, & which is why I don’t use it with my Clarisonic facial brush. I did try using them together once, however I felt it was too harsh on my skin so I have opted to use it on it’s own. This product definitely gives the skin a brighter appearance, so if dullness is something you struggle with, I suggest you try this one. Other ingredients include White Birch Extract (a sugar-derived ingredient known for it’s ability to restore hydration to the skin) and Peony Extract. While the exfoliating particles are not rough in my opinion, I would just like to point out that if you have sensitive skin, that in conjunction with the lavender oil may cause some irritation. However, if you don’t have sensitivity issues, I wouldn’t give it a second thought – you need it!

My Cleansing Routine
My skincare routine varies Monday to Sunday & I wanted to break down the cleansing aspect of it now that I have gone through the products I use. I didn’t go into detail about the Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 as I have spoken about this a million times & I have a review on it already. Also, prior to including the Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser into my skincare routine, I was using the Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser in conjunction with the Clarisonic Plus 5 – 6 times a week, as opposed to below where they are used 4 times per week.
Monday | Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser used with the Clarisonic Plus
Tuesday | Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser
Wednesday | Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser used with the Clarisonic Plus
Thursday | Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 to exfoliate (REVIEW HERE)
Friday | Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser used with the Clarisonic Plus
Saturday | Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser
Sunday | Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser used with the Clarisonic Plus
I don’t think my cleansing routine is at all over the top, but I’m curious about what cleansers you use, & if more than one? I have received a ton of requests for skincare content so & wanted to share it in a way that is focussed rather than a vague list of all the products with no details.
What part of my skincare routine would you like to hear about next?
