Welcome to another Fashion Blogging 101 post, today we will discuss the important question: What is your blog about? I have mentioned in previous posts the importance of making the right choices for your blog. And choosing your overall blog content theme needs to be thought out very well, especially if you plan to turn your blog into more than just a hobby.
When it comes to my blog, & the content I share on it, I have always maintained that it is 100% up to me what I would like to share. However, my blog has an overall theme. Should you choose, you could blog about anything & everything under the sun by covering all topics, however blogs like this are generally not the successful ones. To have a successful blog, I believe you need to have a content theme. By having a content theme, you are engaging with a specific audience. If you don’t have a specific content theme, then audience is much larger, however it becomes harder for that audience to find you. And if your readers can’t find you, how will they read your content?
So, today I want you to think about choosing you content theme. If you are about to start a blog, this is going to be great for you. You can start your blog off on the right foot, & for the right reason. And for those of you who already have blog, you can use this info as well, to take your blog into the direction you see for it’s future.
Talk about what you genuinely love & enjoy.
I want you to think about what it is that you genuinely enjoy, & are interested in. I will say it again, ‘Don’t start a blog for the wrong reason.’ Having great personal style, does not necessarily mean you should start a fashion blog. Having great style doesn’t mean you can’t be passionate about travel or fitness or beauty. I find that it’s a lot easier to talk about a topic if you are genuinely interested in it. Also, the more interested in your topic you are, the more time you will be willing to invest in your blog.
Possible Blog Topics:
- Entertainment / Gossip
- Men’s Fashion
- Home Decor
Try to be original & put your own spin on it.
There will always be people blogging about the same topic as you, no matter what you choose to blog about. So, how will you set yourself a part? Think about who your reader will be, & how you can engage them. As a fashion blogger myself, I know from experience how saturated the fashion blogging industry is. But I am by no means saying that you shouldn’t still start a fashion blog. If fashion is where you want to be, then go for it. But with so many other fashion bloggers, you need to set yourself a part from the rest of us. Find a point of difference. Harper & Harley blogger Sara Donaldson wears only black, white & grey on her blog. And Queen Of Jet Lags blogger Nor shares her travels & fashion on her blog. If you start a fashion blog, what will your unique spin be?
And more importantly, have I given you some food for thought on the blog topic you thought you should be blogging about?
I hope you have enjoyed this post. I am so sorry I missed last week’s post. I am back in South Africa, & will be staying put for a while so no missing posts again! xx
