I’m coloured, medium skin toned – & yeah I still use self tanner ??♀️ The truth is, I find my legs to be too light; & they seldom see the sun which doesn’t make it any better. I love to sun bathe but almost never get the chance. So, over the years I have used self tan in order to get just a little more color on my body. The beauty about tanning the body is that the skin automatically looks healthier. After tanning, I often wear shorts or skirts, because I feel more confident. And if I’m going to the beach, hell yeah I tan before. Stretch marks are almost camouflaged by tanner skin IMO.
Le Tan is a popular Australian tanning brand that launched in South Africa towards the end of 2017. I had never heard of them prior to being sent a press package. However, many people that followed me on Instagram & saw this, had mentioned that they had tried the brand before. I must admit that made me expect a little more from them. Le Tan does not test on animals, & offers a range of vegan friendly products.
It’s not my first time at the rodeo. I have used foam tanning products before. And how do I apply my tanner? When I first started using self tanner, I would use my hands. And almost all the time, I would end up with orange hand syndrome. 2 years back I bought a mitt. It was good to use, & application was ok, but I still ended up with streaks. Maybe my technique was the problem ??♀️
My Experience w/ Le Tan…
I applied the Le Tan Coconut Water Self Tanning Foam with the Le Tan Application Mitt. My first impression of the mitt is that it was very soft. It almost feels like really soft hair. Not weird I swear! The mitt is reusable & easily washed. The foam formula is something I am used to using, there was no surprises there.
It is important to use a self tanner on clean, dry skin. It is also imperative that the skin has been exfoliated a day or 2 before applying any type of self tan. I chose to do test of these products in the morning just before I had to head out the house. I applied the foam to my skin using the mitt in circular motions. Circular motions, somehow even though I do this, I have always managed to get streaks. However, on this occasion there were no streaks. I have put it down to the mitt being the difference. Perhaps it’s the texture of the application mitt that has that streak-free effect.
In terms of the colouration of the self tanner. In all honesty, I don’t leave the tanner on for the recommended time frame. My skin takes to self tanner fairly fast, & I also like a very light tan. The recommended time frame is 1 hour for a deep tan; 2 hours for a dark tan; & 3+ hours for an even darker tan. My understanding is that the tan references in terms of deep, dark etc, are more geared at a fairer skinned person. Because for me, after 1 hour I had an amazing glowing tan, not deep. I loved the way my skin looked. As i have said, I prefer to have a slight tan; just enough for me to feel more comfortable with my bare legs. That being said, I do feel like if you wanted a deeper tan, it would be achievable if you left it on for longer than I did.
Can I be real with you for a minute? Normally, for the 1st 2 days after tanning, I have to wear pants. I almost always end up a little orange ? However, as you can see below I ain’t orange no more. I would absolutely use this self tanning foam again. And I am very much in love with the mitt. I feel like the texture of the mitt made all the difference in application. Overall, I say you should try this out if you’re on the market for a new self tanning product. The Le Tan range is available at Dis-Chem & also Takealot.
