Back in July, Cape Town – based personal trainer ‘guru’, Rush Tush asked me if I was interested in embarking on the RUSHTUSH Glow Cleanse journey. Rush was already aware of my fairly active lifestyle. Social media had brought us together & we had gotten to know each other in that way.  At the time, I was in the gym at least 3 times a week. But, if I am completely honest, while I was eating ok, it was not always healthy.

The Glow Cleanse is a 4 week detox guideline, the 4th week is a sample of what a healthy balanced diet should look like.

I think the idea we all have when we hear the word ‘detox’ is that the food is not going to taste good, & that you’re going to be hungry all the time. This is the opposite of what the Glow Cleanse is. My first weekly shopping trip was different. My trolley was full of vegetables, chicken, fish & fruit. I looked at it thinking ‘How will I eat all this?’ And boy, 5 meals a day was tough at first. But I did get used to it in a day or two. And I realised the importance of having those 5 meals a day. Snacks are ok in between lunch & dinner – but they need to be good snacks, like raw almonds or a smoothie.

Week 1 & 3 of the Glow Cleanse are the same set of meals. Week 2 is a different set of meals. And week 4 is essentially maintenance for how you should be eating on an ongoing basis. Here & there I had trouble in the weeks, especially when I found myself out of my home. But when I was home, I was so happy to eat everything that was laid out in front of me. My favourite meals were the Hulk Soup, Hulk Juice and the Coconut & Avo Smoothie. The Glow Cleanse had an amazing impact on my body because I was sleeping earlier –  due to cutting out refined sugar. And I was feeling a lot more energetic in the day.

What I loved most about the Glow Cleanse is that I feel as though it has changed my life. It showed me that I could be truly committed to eating right & clean. It gave me motivation to hit the gym a little harder. Most importantly, the Glow Cleanse has made me question everything I put in my body. I think about my choices, & make better ones when it comes to food. I don’t always get it right, but I am conscious of it – even then.

At the end of the 4 week Glow Cleanse, I was feeling amazing, & I was starting to see some definition on my abs. I unfortunately had a business trip to China, which completely through me off. I had consulted with Rush before I went, & asked her for tips & ideas on staying healthy. But in reality it was tough. It always is when I travel. I am actually thinking about doing the Glow Cleanse again because I would like to get myself back to the point I was at before I travelled. What do you think? Should I?

I am often asked what my goal is by people who see me eating healthy, & going the gym all the time. I think they see me as slim so they wonder why I am doing this. The truth is, a year ago I was ‘skinny fat’. But today, I am fit & healthy. It is a lifestyle that I encourage. You don’t have to be skinny to be fit, you can be a size 38 & be fit too. We are not all meant to look the same, don’t forget that.

I wanted to share some of the meals (mostly from SNAPCHAT  brett_robson) I ate when I was doing the Glow Cleanse, perhaps it will inspire you.
