I wanted to share a few local & lekker brands that I think you should be supporting. I have had experiences with all of the below brands & would absolutely recommend them to you. After compiling my list below, I noticed that these are all women-run / owned businesses & I love that. Here’s to women supporting women more in 2019.
(SHOP) BRETT ROBSON
I have to start the post off with my baby, the Brett Robson fashion brand available for purchase online via Shop Brett Robson & Zando. The brand is also available in-store via Wear South Africa in Menlyn Mall. I launched my brand in May 2015, with 12 pieces. We now drop monthly packs of trendy, fun fashion. If you’ve ever shopped with us – thank you. And if you haven’t shopped with us – SHOP HERE. As a woman, I always want to feel good when I am shopping online, & my customer is always my focus. We photograph our product on all the sizes we offer so that our customer identifies with the imagery she sees on our online shop or APP. Yes, we have an APP, so download it & use the code APP20 on your first App purchase.
My love affair with athleisure brand KHEPER started in 2017 when the brand owner, Mena asked if she could send me a pair of tights. When I opened my package I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing tights & crop top inside. I had previously bought most of my fitness gear when I travelled abroad. But after wearing my KHEPER tights during a workout I ordered a few more pairs online. What I love about the tights is that they are all high waisted, which I personally prefer. Mena is also just a great person. We have chatted on many occasions. And she has offered her advice & even her CMT when I expressed interest in adding active product to my Brett Robson brand. Not many people would do that. From what I have seen on social media, Kheper has a cult following. Everyone loves Mena, & what she has created. It is amazing to watch the brand go from strength to strength.
byCARA has fast become one of the coolest accessory brands in SA. All your faves are wearing the brands trendy, carefully curated pieces. The brand owner, Cara-Lee was the fashion editor at Fairlady magazine until she branched out to start byCARA. There is this amazing minimalist sense you get from the brands pieces, & I love the clean aesthetic of the social media accounts & online shop. Shop the coolest costume jewelry & sunglasses from byCARA. I promise it’ll be worth it!
If you’re looking for the most fashionable, & trendy sunglasses then head on over to iamtrend. I own about 5 pairs of iamtrend sunglasses but my faves have to be the pair pictured below that I wore to Coachella in 2018. I think these are the Negin shades if I am not mistaken. The brand owner, Tamarin has such vision, I love what she has created with the brand aesthetic. You have to see the photoshoots they do, & how stunning the Instagram feed is. Total goals!
Laro South Africa is a luxury modest swimwear, kaftan and gymwear brand. Founded by one of my favourite bloggers, Rowena of Secrets & Stilettos along with one of her friends; the brand offers modest babes the most beautiful swimming costumes. And also sells stunning kaftans which are suitable for a broader clientele as you can choose to wear the kaftan according to your preferences. I own a few pairs of the Laro tights from the gym wear range. I love this khaki pant, & especially enjoy wearing it when I travel as it is very comfortable & the fabric breathable..
I discovered Espadril Spain a few years back, but finally made my first purchase while in Cape Town in December. Visiting the brand’s HQ was a great experience & as you can tell from the picture below, there was so much to choose from. I absolutely love that the brand allows customers to customise their special pair of espadrilles. Everyone that I know with a pair of Espadril Spain espadrilles, only speak of the amazing quality, & how they wear them to death. Truth be told, I’m the same!
If there are any brands you have tried from my list, let me know what your thoughts are. And if you know of a brand that you think I would like, then holla at your girl! x
